Parents !

On August 22, 2006 our doctor told us that the pregnancy test was positive; Trish and I looked at eachother a bit dumbstruck, agog; Trish asked our doctor, “What does that mean?” Of course we knew, but the prospect of having a child seemed so far away we had come to accept that parenthood was perhaps not in the cards for us. A few weeks have passed since then and the reality of having a baby is settling in. Comforting exciting scary. So as we approach Burkerts 3.0 (so to speak) we started this weblog to chronicle our thoughts, feelings and experiences. It’s a way to keep our family and friends in the loop but in the bigger picture, it’s a letter into the future, a letter to our child. Because maybe someday down the road we’ll get that phone call when we’re told we’re going to be grandparents. So maybe weblogs in thirty years will be the microfiche of today, but there will be a record, significant and genuine.

Diana Katharine Burkert was born at 8:23 am on Thursday, the twenty-ninth of March, 2007. Kate weighed six pounds eleven ounces and was nineteen inches long.
